Tula

‘Tula’ conceptualises 5 stages of progression; from the coming of the universe and planet Earth to the destruction and undoing of all life and beauty due to our incompetence and selfishness as a species, interpreted through Mayan mythology. The Mayans believed that their God of peace, the Feathered Serpent, had arrived from the Eastern Sea. He founded their cities, formed laws, taught them how to be civilised and peaceful and gave them the skills and knowledge needed to thrive as a civilisation while forbidding the practice of human sacrifice. This enlightened rule of the Feathered Serpent was then brought to an end by the malevolent God, Smoking Mirror, whose nightmarish cult demanded human sacrifice. Smoking Mirror was associated with night, darkness and the sacred jaguar. A struggle of light and darkness took place at the ancient site, Tula. After battling each other for a number of years the Feathered Serpent was defeated and then driven out of Tula. Along with great sadness he sailed off again in the direction from where he had come on a Raft Of Serpents. After his departure the blood-splattering rituals were reintroduced with vengeance. The concept was inspired by Graham Hancock’s book ‘Fingerprints Of The Gods.’ The myth epitomises modern man’s intent to destroy our planet and sacrifice all living creatures despite the fact that we ourselves will not survive the aftermath, and deservedly so.
